William Bay National Park

William Bay National Park and infrastructure projects

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) is working with the Shire of Denmark and other stakeholders to develop three new State Recovery-funded trails projects in William Bay National Park and complete beach access upgrades including a new elevated boardwalk and lookout. Works will be occurring in the Greens Pool, Elephant Rocks, Waterfall Beach, Lights Beach and Ocean Beach areas.

These new trails will enhance the experience and safety for all trail-users.

  • William Bay NP shared use from Elephant Rocks to Waterfall Beach
  • New trail along William Bay Road as a realignment for the Munda Biddi
  • Extension to the WOW Trail from Lights Beach to Ocean Beach

When combined together, all 3 trails will make a new and safer alignment for Munda Biddi trail riders cycling from William Bay to Denmark.

William Bay from Elephant Rocks to Waterfall Beach (2.6km)

This new shared-use walk and cycle trail has been constructed to showcase the spectacular views over Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks, Madfish Bay and beyond to Waterfall Beach.

Trail users can walk or cycle straight out of the carpark on the new sealed surface from Greens Pool to a newly constructed viewing platform above the Elephant Rocks beach.

This part of the trail is suitable for wheelchairs and adaptive cycles. As the trail meanders past Elephant Rocks, on its way to Madfish Bay, the surface reverts to ‘hardened’, which is suitable for cyclists and provides a smooth surface for walkers.

Construction commenced July 2021 and was completed at the end of October 2021. Read about the opening of the trail HERE.

New Munda Biddi William Bay Road alignment (5km)

Currently, the existing alignment of the Munda Biddi Trail utilises William Bay Rd to access the coastal trail. Due to the increasing amount of vehicle traffic on William Bay Rd a new trail alignment that parallels the road will be constructed.

As part of the commitment to continually upgrade existing trails, this new 5km section of trail will greatly enhance the safety of Munda Biddi trail-users and reduce the possibility of road conflict.

WOW Trail extension from Lights Beach Ocean Beach (6.2km)

The ‘Wilderness Ocean Walk’ or WOW Trail currently runs from Lights Beach west to the Denmark Community Windfarm. This trail has been described as ‘undulating’ with some sustained steep sections.

The existing trail will be improved and extended through the Windfarm to Ocean Beach and the Denmark Ocean Beach Surf Club. From there it’s 5.5km on the existing shared-use trail to the Denmark township.
